I love flying.

I’m not that crazy about engines and cars, like some people are, but hearing the plane’s engines rev up during takeoff is short of a mystic experience. There are no words to describe the feeling of power and freedom coming out of it.

Leaving with a plane is like being born again; it is exciting to escape the daily routine and reach a distant and unknown place.

Travelling (and travelling alone in particular) is a great way of rediscovering yourself. Granted, most people will feel homesick after more than a few days away from their homeland and their familiar daily activities and people.

I could keep travelling forever and never come back. I don’t feel any attachment whatsoever to my birthplace and I will elaborate on this particular aspect in a later post.

That however does not make me a backpacker. In my globetrotting time I like to stop in a certain area for a few weeks and enjoy travelling with all the comforts that are available out there, which means staying in a hotel rather than in a youth hostel and taking taxis to reach various destinations where public transportation is not sufficiently developed.

Travelling should be safe and enjoyable: I’m not too keen in getting into unnecessary adventures just because money is tight and young people are supposed to be travelling on a budget to have fun.
